If you have been recently following what has been going on with your Google+ (plus) account, You probably noticed the new re-designe that is simular to the Facebook timeline cover image.
It is called the Cover photo, (some agree it is to avoid court trouble with facebook), which is a different size then the facebook one. (larger) You also no longer have the icons that where static as before, that were on the top, now they are to your left. There is a pop-up window when you put your mouse on them without clicking.
And that is how you can add photos to your Google plus + profile. There is also now an online chat for your google circles, as well as an EXPLORE and HANGOUT feature. It will seem very familiar and simular to the twitter trends section.
The Cover Photo google+ plus Width is 940 pixels and as for the Cover Photo Height its 180 pixels tall. Thecover image timeline size for facebook is 851 pixels by 180 pixles. big difference.
